About the School Board

Since its founding in 1955, Saints Peter & Paul Catholic School has been the premier PreK-12 institution of faith and learning on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Past, present and future, our school's strength is found in its community, within the very bricks and charisma that is our foundation.

Advancing that deeply ingrained sense of community of Saints Peter & Paul, we established a School Advisory Board in January 2016. The Board is an advisory partner with the Pastor and School administrative team in strategically leading the school.

The Board is made up of outstanding members of our community, who come from a diversity of professional and personal backgrounds, all committed to a singular goal of furthering the Catholic educational experience at Saints Peter & Paul and across the MidShore. These are extraordinary people, who give of their time and talents without any desire for personal recognition but simply because they are passionate about Catholic education, our School, and navigating its future.

The success of the Board relies on the active support and participation of the community either as members of the Board, assisting with specific committee work, or just helping spread the good news that is Saints Peter & Paul School! We need members who represent an array of experiences and skills, committed to helping the School fulfill its mission and achieve its goals. Saints Peter & Paul School is one of our Parish's largest and time-honored ministries. I am continually gratified by the enormous skill set our lay people bring to helping Father Michael and I make our Parish and school such a vibrant community of faith and learning. Thank you for ALL you do!

Board Attributes for Nominees

All nominees for the Board membership must possess the following attributes:

  • A genuine commitment to Catholic school education, its mission and its future
  • Expertise in one or more areas that contribute to the Board's work: Finance, Development/Fundraising, Marketing, Facilities, and Strategic Planning
  • A willingness and ability to make a substantial time commitment to the work of the Board
  • Ability to attend monthly meetings
  • A willingness to serve on at least one Board committee
  • A willingness to attend periodic in-service programs
  • A willingness to support School, Parish and Diocesan policy
  • A willingness and ability to be credible witnesses of the Catholic faith to the school, community and Parish
  • A willingness and the ability to maintain high levels of integrity and appropriate confidentiality

Members of the School Board generally serve for a term of three years with possibility of a second term.

In order to avoid actual or apparent conflicts of interest, current employees of the School/Parish (or their immediate families) are ineligible to serve as voting members of the Board.

Parents of current students must comprise less than one-quarter of the voting membership.
